Lille: Ancelotti's New Project Already Showing Attacking Promise

Lille enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, finishing third with 61 points from 34 matches and a 52:37 goal difference. That performance secured direct qualification for the Champions League group stage. However, the summer brought significant change, with Davide Ancelotti taking over from Bruno Génésio.

The Dogues produced encouraging results during pre-season, recording two wins, two draws, and one defeat in five friendlies. They beat La Louvière 3-0 and Leuven 6-3, lost 2-1 to Union, drew 2-2 with Hamburg, and finished their preparations with a 1-1 draw against Everton. Lille scored in every one of those matches, although they also conceded in four of them.

Olivier Giroud remains a major talking point. The experienced forward was forced off after 23 minutes against Everton with a left-knee problem, but subsequent examinations revealed no serious damage. He has since returned to full training, with Ancelotti confirming that he should be available for the opening game against Angers.

Elsewhere, Hamza Igamane remains sidelined and is not expected to return before October. Tanguy Nianzou will also miss the beginning of the league campaign, although Lille hope the defender could recover in time for the meeting with PSG.

PSG: Champions Still Searching for Their Best Rhythm

PSG begin the season as overwhelming favorites to retain their crown. Luis Enrique's team dominated the previous campaign, collecting 76 points, scoring 74 goals, and conceding only 29. They ultimately finished 15 points ahead of Lille.

However, their recent form has been somewhat inconsistent. PSG lost 3-0 to Mallorca and drew 1-1 with Manchester United in pre-season before beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup. They then suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lens in the Trophée des Champions on August 16. One recurring concern has been their defense, as the Parisians conceded in all four August matches leading up to the Ligue 1 opener.

Luis Enrique has fewer concerns on the injury front. As of August 22, none of PSG's regular starters were dealing with major fitness problems, while João Neves had returned to full fitness after being rested against Lens.

The main confirmed absentee is Nuno Mendes. The Portuguese defender is serving a three-match suspension following his red card in the Trophée des Champions and will miss fixtures against Rennes, Lille, and Monaco.

Lucas Digne is expected to cover at left-back. Further forward, Enrique has a wealth of attacking options, with Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Désiré Doué among the leading candidates to start. Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche provide further depth, giving PSG plenty of firepower for a difficult away trip.
